Russian figure skater, Alexander Zaboev is seeking Estonian citizenship in order to attain his dream of attending the Sochi Olympic Games that is to take place in February. The 24 year old Yekaterinburg-born wants to not only attain the citizenship to join the Sochi Olympic games but he also wants to continue to represent the country in the future. He also wants to “contribute to the development of figure skating in this country”. Since mixed-nation pairs are not allowed to skate in the Grand Prix circuit, Zaboev is forced to switch since he had been skating with the Estonian skater Natalja Zabijako since October of 2012.
The Olympic figure skating is set for February 6-20. Hopefully Zaboev is able to obtain his citizenship by then.
Update: Alexander Zaboev was denied his Estonian citizenship. No explaination for the denial was given
